"Will it arrive in time for the party?" — the real question you're asking
It all comes down to this: you need to know how long your package will take to reach the Philippines to decide when to send it. If it's for a birthday, Christmas, a graduation, a legal document with a deadline… the timing matters more than the price.
This guide gives you real 2026 delivery times from Spain to the Philippines, broken down by shipping type. Based on actual Acacia Cargo data — not the "theoretical" times you'll find on corporate pages.

Quick table: real delivery times by shipping type
| Shipping type | Standard time | Real time (incl. customs) |
| Express documents | 3–5 business days | 3–7 days |
| Small air packages | 5–10 days | 7–14 days |
| Airborne balikbayan box | 7–15 days | 10–20 days |
| Sea balikbayan box | 45–60 days | 50–75 days |
| DHL/FedEx Express | 3–5 days | 3–7 days |
Why two timelines? The standard time is transit only. The real time includes customs, last-mile delivery in the province, and typical unexpected events.
Detailed delivery times by shipping type
1. Documents (envelopes, letters, diplomas) — 3 to 7 days
The fastest shipping. Apostilled documents, contracts, letters, bank cheques, and papers that are small and weigh under 500 g.
- Barcelona → Manila: 3–5 business days
- Barcelona → provinces (Cebu, Davao, Iloilo): +1–2 days
- Barcelona → remote islands (Batanes, Palawan): +2–3 days
Typical use: apostilles, migration documents, notarial contracts, university diplomas. Here's our guide on sending documents to the Philippines.
2. Small air packages — 7 to 14 days
Small gifts, medicines, personal care products, small electronics. Between 1 and 5 kg.
- Metro Manila: 7–10 days
- Major cities (Cebu, Davao): 10–12 days
- Provinces: 12–14 days
3. Airborne balikbayan box — 10 to 20 days
The most popular format for family shipments. Boxes of 20–50 kg with clothes, processed food, gifts, electronics.
| Stage | Duration |
| Pickup/reception in Barcelona | 1 day |
| Packaging and documentation | 1–2 days |
| International flight | 2–3 days |
| Customs in Manila | 2–5 days |
| Home delivery | 2–9 days (by province) |
| Typical total | 10–20 days |
The most variable stage is customs. In high season (November–December) it can be 5–7 days due to Bureau of Customs saturation.
4. Sea balikbayan box — 50 to 75 days
The most affordable option for large shipments (30+ kg) with no rush.
| Stage | Duration |
| Consolidation in Barcelona | 3–7 days |
| Sea transit | 35–45 days |
| Unloading and customs in Manila | 5–10 days |
| Final delivery | 5–15 days |
| Typical total | 50–75 days |
Tip: if you're shipping for Christmas, sea cargo must leave before October. By November it's too late.
What affects delivery time
These are the 5 factors that most change the real timeline:
1. Time of year
- November–December: +3–7 days due to customs saturation (massive pre-Christmas balikbayan boxes)
- April–May: normal times
- Holy Week: +2–3 days if it overlaps with transit
- Philippine holidays (Independence Day, Bonifacio Day): +1–2 days due to customs closures
2. Destination province
- Metro Manila: base time, no delay
- Northern Luzon (Baguio, Ilocos): +1–2 days
- Visayas (Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod): +2–3 days
- Mindanao (Davao, Cagayan, Zamboanga): +3–5 days
- Small islands (Batanes, Tawi-Tawi, remote Palawan): +5–10 days
3. Content type
If you ship something that needs special declaration (high-value electronics, prescription medicines, specific foods), customs can hold the box 2–4 extra days for verification.
Here's the complete list of what can and can't go in.
4. Complete documentation
If the packing list is properly filled and the proforma invoice matches the contents, customs releases the box within 48 hours. If there are discrepancies, it can be 5–7 days.
5. Declared value vs exemption
The balikbayan box exemption (up to PHP 150,000 ≈ €2,500) releases the box tax-free. If you exceed that, the recipient has to pay taxes before receiving — that can add 2–5 days.
What if I need it urgent?
If normal timing doesn't work, there are 3 faster options:
Option 1: DHL/FedEx Express (3–7 days)
The fastest available, but costs 3–4× more. Worth it for urgent documents with deadlines (visas, notarial contracts). Not worth it for a box of gifts.
Option 2: Priority air package (5–10 days)
Our express line for small packages. Adds 20–30% to the standard rate but cuts delivery time nearly in half.
Option 3: Early shipping with tracking
If you ship with 3 weeks of margin, you have a guaranteed arrival even with customs delays. The cheapest way to be sure.
How it compares to other companies
Typical timings we've seen in 2026 for an airborne balikbayan box to Manila:
| Company | Published time | Real observed time |
| Acacia Cargo | 7–15 days | 10–20 days |
| LBC Express | 10–15 days | 15–25 days |
| Atlas Shippers | 14–21 days | 21–30 days |
| Informal pasabuy | "a month" | 30–60 days |
| DHL air | 3–5 days | 3–7 days |
Why real time is longer than published: most companies publish transit time only (flight + cargo movement), but don't count customs or last-mile delivery. We give you the complete time from when you hand us the box to when your family receives it at home.

How to track your shipment in real time
From the moment you hand us the box, you get a tracking code via email and WhatsApp. You can check status at any time:

2. International departure — notification at departure
3. In transit — update every 24h
4. Philippines customs — confirmation at entry
5. Local delivery — estimated delivery day
6. Delivered — confirmation with recipient signature
If anything is delayed, we contact you before you have to ask. It's part of the service.
FAQs about delivery times
What's the minimum time possible from Spain to the Philippines?
DHL or FedEx Express can deliver documents to Manila in 3 days. For regular packages, our air service takes 7–15 days.
Can I speed up a shipment already in transit?
Once the package is in transit, the time is fixed. What we can do is prioritize customs clearance if there's an urgent reason (wedding, funeral, legal procedure). Let us know when you request the quote.
Why do balikbayan boxes sometimes take more than 20 days?
Typical causes: (1) customs saturation (November–December), (2) incomplete documentation, (3) remote province delivery, (4) declared value above exemption. None usually adds more than 5–7 days.
When's the best time of year to ship?
February–May are the months with the fastest customs and least saturation. If you can choose, ship then.
Do you ship on weekends?
Pickups and international shipments go out Monday–Friday. On Saturdays we can receive at the office but the package enters the international circuit the following Monday.
Can I ship for a specific date (birthday, Christmas)?
Yes. If you tell us the target date, we plan backwards: 20–25 days before for air, 75–90 days before for sea. For Christmas, the last day for sea cargo is September 30.
